Working with architects Squire & Partners and main contractor Kajima Construction, Chelsea Artisans designed and installed Diamond Ultralite stone cladding to the London office, lift atrium area of a well know financial institution.
Lightweight stone panels provide designers and architects alike with greater scope to explore new applications, without compromising safety or durability.
For this application the cladding was to be secured to the façade of a listed building, so there were a number of technical issues to overcome. The existing wall could not accept the loading of traditional limestone, which would have had to be up to 75mm thick to comply with the relevant British Standard.
Using a proprietary aluminium support framework, Diamond Ultralite panels
were installed to the 25m high x 16m wide wall, in panel sizes up to 2.20m
x 1.10m.
To ensure the panels were securely anchored into position, Chelsea
Artisans called upon the longstanding technical experience and knowledge
of bigHead Bonding Fasteners to provide a suitable solution. bigHeads’
innovative, composite panel fastener, the TwinDisk, provided the perfect
solution.

TwinDisks’ secure anchoring characteristics ensured safety
parameters were adequately met whilst also providing the
client with the discrete solution necessary for the application.
Due to statutory safety regulations Chelsea Artisans commissioned
tensile (pull-out) load testing of bigHeads’ TwinDisk
to prove fitness for purpose (see picture right). Needless
to say, the product out performed expectations, as remarked
by Artisans’ Jeremy John…..
